Wes Martin was an avid sports fan. As a boy, he fell in love with the Steelers' Steel Curtain and other nearby teams, such as Pirates and Penguins. He dreamed of being a sports announcer. As an adult, he collected sports memorabilia and played golf, softball, pool, and bowling. He influenced the lives of many with his positive attitude on and off the course.
In 2010, he started getting short of breath. Wes was misdiagnosed a number of times before they figured out the real issue. He was suffering from a disease called IPF, which is fibrosis (scar tissue) restricting the lungs for an unknown reason. The prevalence of this disease has been growing each year. The only solution at this time is a lung transplant. Wes died waiting on that transplant. There are currently 120,995 people waiting on transplant lists.
My dad is no longer with us, but we are going to honor his memory by funding research that could create a solution in the future and prevent more untimely deaths. He would be excited to have his passion for golf used to help in this important work!
The cost will be $65 per person and include 18 holes, cart, food, and prizes. We will honor his memory with laughs, golf, and food
